Awake

I really love this song…it serves as a great reminder that nothing in this life can last forever, so you should cherish the moments you have. I’m reminded of a quote from the movie “Because of Winn-Dixie”:

“Gloria Dump says that you can’t hold on to anything. You gotta love what you got while you got it!”

~Opal from Because of Winn-Dixie

Awake

Josh Groban

A beautiful and blinding morning
The world outside begins to breathe
See clouds arriving without warning
I need you here to shelter me

And I know that only time will tell us how
To carry on without each other

So keep me awake to memorize you
Give me more time to feel this way
We can’t stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today

If I could make these moments endless
If I could stop the winds of change
If we just keep our eyes wide open
Then everything would stay the same

And I know that only time will tell me how
We’ll carry on without each other

So keep me awake for every moment
Give us more time to be this way
We can’t stay like this forever
But I can have you next to me today

We’ll let tomorrow wait, you’re here, right now, with me
All my fears just fall away, when you are all I see

We can’t stay like this forever
But I have you here today

And I will remember
Oh I will remember
Remember all the love we shared today

Open Hands

Sometimes the hardest thing to open is your own fist.

Isn’t that the truth. when we are born, our fists are clenched, hanging on to nothing, but giving the illusion of control. As we grow, that doesn’t really change. We cling to everything.

Some of the most sensitive nerves in the body are in the hands. We use them to tell us about the environment: texture, movement, and temperature. The palms are very sensitive.Just try tickling them! We spend most of our time either with our fingers curled inward, or with our palms against a safe surface like a table or our own body (knees, etc.)

I think it’s because we hold things in our palms. We hold money, precious trinkets, and other’s hands in our hands, and we want to keep them there. If we open our hands, might someone take these things from us?

I don’t know about you, but once I get ahold of something, I don’t want to let it go…ever! But sometimes we have to let things and people go. And sometimes it takes some prying. And that’s not fun.

I think that sometimes when we’re given a gift from God, we tend to want to worship the gift rather than the Giver. And sometimes God says, “Hey! Stop worshipping that! I gave that to you, remember?” But we foget that so easily. So we hold tight, and when God wants His gift back, it takes prying.

So what should we do? Should we never love, never hold anything tight? No! A life without loving anyone or anything wouldn’t be worth living! But we need to realise that our love may be temporary: that person may die, that thing may be destroyed. But that doesn’t change the fact that you have loved, and that you remember that love.

So when the time comes for you to let go, remember: nothing can take away the fact that you have loved. Love for all your worth while you can, then let it go. nothing can last forever, except God. He’s the one you’ll never have to let go. And He’ll never let you go, either.
