A Letter

My Dear Friend,

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you. You bring joy to my life, and I believe God sent you. Here’s why:

  • The minute I see you come through the door, I’m excited to see you
  • Your presence brings a smile to my face and lifts my spirits
  • The sound of your voice is like music, gentle and expressive
  • When you’re playful, all the world seems light
  • When you’re excited about something, it makes me excited too
  • When you’re sad or hurt, I feel a wave of compassion sweep over me til all I want is to put a smile back on your face, to do whatever I can to help you
  • When you’re angry, it makes me want to go after whatever made you angry and deal with it personally
  • When you do something for me, I’m touched deeply. It makes me want to do something for you, anything I can, as well as to help anyone else I may come across
  • When I do something for you, I can’t wait to see the look on your face. Your smile is my reward in full
  • When we hug, I feel strength flowing into me and I know that I can take on whatever life throws at me
  • When I’m having a hard day, and I see you, I forget all about the problems I may have had
  • I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than just work hard by your side. Our cooperation makes even the heaviest things seem light, and the toughest jobs seem easy and fun
  • I always want to be gentle with you, never harsh
  • I always want to be loving with you, never hateful
  • I always want to speak kindly to you, never spitefully
  • I always want to put your will over my own
  • You always show up at the right time
  • There is no “bad time” to call me. If I can hear my phone, I will answer it
  • I appreciate all your talents, no matter what they may be. I know that God has gifted you enormously

So you see, my friend I had to write this letter to tell you all these things. I wanted to be sure you knew them, and how much I appreciate you, because there is no way I could ever say all this in daily life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for just being you!

Your Friend

Prayer

Creator, I long for Your embrace

Take me out into Your creation

Breathe into me there

Show me what You have made

The gifts You have given me

Be there with me

Let me feel You in the cool breeze

In the grass beneath my feet

In the stream that trickles by

In the birdsong

Hold me close to You there

And tell me again how You love me

Tell me again how You are the only One I need

Make Yourself so close, so tangible

That I cannot help but feel You

Meet with me in the “middle of nowhere”

When I come back to my normal haunts

Don’t let me forget

Show Yourself to me in a thousand different ways

The kindness of a stranger

Your providence for my needs

The right words at the right time

Your divine love suprises

Court me, Father

Call my heart and woo me

Don’t let me ignore You

Keep after me

Be the Lover who never stops pursuing me

And the true Husband who never dies and never leaves

All my love is Yours,

Your Precious Child

Love Defined

I love you.

What does that mean?

It means that I will wait for you patiently, and will control my temper.

I will always look for the best thing to say about you, and I will do the little things that make you smile. I will lavish compliments on you and praise your accomplishments generously.

I won’t be jealous of you, or covet what you have; instead I’ll rejoice that you have it.

I won’t push you down to build myself up; instead I’ll climb with you, and, when it’s down to the wire, I’ll stay below to give you a boost.

I’ll show you greater concern than I show for myself.

I won’t speak sharply to you or ignore you, I’ll hear you out even when I don’t want to think you’re right.

I won’t forget you while trying to aggrandise myself; instead I’ll build you up and let God worry about me.

I won’t snap at you or shout angry and hurtful words for no reason.

I will not keep bringing up what you did last week, last month, or last year. Past is past; I’ll forgive you.

If something bad happens to you, I’ll weep with you, not point and laugh.

I’ll always strive for honesty and open communication between us.

I won’t let others speak ill of you; I’ll speak in your defense. If necessary, I’ll step between you and a bullet meant for you. I’d rather be hurt than let you be hurt, or, worse yet, than hurt you myself.

I will trust you, even when it seems like you’re messing things up. I’ll believe in you, even when all the circumstances say you’re dead wrong.

I’ll always look for the silver lining with you, and I’ll do my best to point out the good on the road ahead.

I won’t give up on you. Ever. No matter what you do, I’ll stick it out.

I will stay forever.

I won’t leave or betray you.

I’ll brag on you to my friends, holding you up as an example of good.

I’ll be constant for you.

I won’t get “bored” and leave.

When I find a fault in you, I won’t ridicule you; instead I’ll help you to mend it, covering your weak areas with my strong ones. I’ll be honest with you about my weaknesses, without fearing that you’ll ridicule me for them.

I won’t fear you, and I’ll never threaten or intimidate you.

I’ll base my decisions on what’s best for you, not on my own gain.

When you have a rough day or a failure, I’ll be there to listen, to counsel, or just to sit with you.

When you are wrong, I will confront you humbly and gently, and I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

I want to be near you. When you’re not near me, I anticipate the next time I’ll see you.

When you smile, it brightens my day.

When your tears fall, so do mine.

You bring out the creativity in me; it expresses itself in all the ways I can show you love.

When you laugh, the whole world seems merry.

I want you to stay near me the rest of our lives, and I want to be together in heaven.

If your friends shower you with praise and recognition, I’ll lead the charge.

And if your enemies demand your life, I will give mine instead.

There’s no better way I could say what I’ve been trying to say all along:

I love you.

Sometimes

Sometimes the most beautiful poetry is prose.

Sometimes the most beautiful people are overlooked.

Sometimes the strongest position seems the weakest.

Sometimes the wisest advice comes from the “foolish”.

Sometimes it takes more faith to disbelieve than to believe.

Sometimes what makes a man a hero is his belief that he is “nothing special”.

Sometimes what makes a girl a princess is her belief that she is “only a girl”.

Sometimes the best way to fight something is by stepping away.

Sometimes the most beautiful music does not hold to conventional theory.

Sometimes the ones who are revered are the ones who should be revering
Someone Else.

Sometimes the richest ones have no money.

Sometimes the winners finish last.

Sometimes the ones who are right suffer.

Sometimes the wisest one is “just a kid”.

Sometimes the last thing you try, works.

Sometimes the ones with the brightest futures have the darkest pasts.

Sometimes the best toy is the box.

Sometimes the remedy for the most complex problem is simple.

Welcome to the Kingdom.

Here, the last are first, the first are last, and the great ones serve others.

Here, we love each other, encourage each other and look out for one another.

Here, there is grace, forgiveness, peace, and joy.

Are you ready?

Then let’s go.
