Roses Have Thorns

Love is a rose.
Roses have thorns.

It’s that simple. Anyone or anything you love can and likely will hurt you, somehow, some way. It may be small. Perhaps unintentional.

They’ll forget your birthday
Say careless things
Blow up and vent on you
Break a promise
Make excuses
Stand you up
Talk behind your back
Forget to call
Lie to you
Take what’s not theirs
Fail to listen

The Big Question:

Do you throw the rose away?

Why would you do that? You hold a thing of beauty! Just because it has pricked you, should you just get rid of it? No!

Roses are beautiful, worthy of being reached for. But you have to brave the thorns. They will always be there. People are people. They are fallen, broken. This thing takes courage and work. It takes patience. That goes for any love: family, friendship, romance.

You can be careful. You can avoid some thorns by your vigilance. But you shouldn’t avoid the rose. Go ahead-reach for it. And remember-you have thorns. You’re no angel in this. You’ll hurt those who love you, if only unintentionally. The worst thorn of all can be utter blindness to one who loves you. If you have thorns the same as the rest, how can you throw the rose away? Should they do the same to you?

The fragrance of the rose in full bloom is worth enduring a few scratches. Don’t give up. Reach for the rose and hold it tight.
